Is April Fools really the best day of choice to reveal new games and trailers? Probably not. Nintendo Direct, though, is usually trustworthy.
Amongst the new announcements and trailers, viewers got a peak at a couple of highly-anticipated releases during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation. Namely, the next, as-of-yet untitled entry in the Fire Emblem series, and the long-dormant Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem.
The trailer and presentation for the next Fire Emblem gives a basic rundown of the game’s main themes. As in Fire Emblem: Awakening, you will get to create your own avatar. In this game, though, rather than being a co-hero to the main character, your avatar will be the main character of the story. The story doesn’t break from Fire Emblem tradition, as it follows a war between two nations: Hoshido and Nohr. Your character will have to decide which nation to align with, which will change up the game’s story and difficulty.
Perhaps more anticipated is Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, which has been mostly out of the news since its original announcement. The trailer mostly consists of cutscene clips, along with some hints of gameplay. It seems from the trailer, though, that the game is going to be heavily influenced by the Persona series. Following the trailer, presenter Bill Trinen mentions how the game will be a “…truly modern RPG, where everyday life exists, alongside a secret world of fantasy…”. Kinda sounds…exactly like recent Persona games.
The next Fire Emblem is due for release in North America by 2016. Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem does not yet have a release date. Check out the trailers below!
